When an existing dataset does not fit

An off-the-shelf dataset may lack the required action, interaction, skeleton, target embodiment, label schema, or usage rights. Increasing volume does not solve a mismatch between the data and the task.

Uthana builds custom programs around the intended behavior, source material, representation, output schema, quality threshold, and commercial use. The goal is a dataset that can be inspected and accepted against a written specification, not a generic promise of more data.

Combine the sources the task requires

A custom program can combine:

  • Licensed motion from Uthana’s existing studio dataset
  • New marker-based studio capture
  • 3D human-motion extraction from owned, licensed, or purpose-collected video
  • Skeleton normalization or retargeting to an agreed convention
  • Action labels, temporal segments, trajectories, contacts, and custom metadata
  • Packaging, validation, and delivery against customer acceptance criteria

The exact capture location, motion coverage, supported interactions, target skeleton, fields, and formats are determined during specification and pilot work.

Specify, sample, pilot, then scale

  1. Specify: Define the behavior, sources, skeleton, representation, schema, quality thresholds, delivery, and permitted use.
  2. Sample: Produce a representative subset that exposes technical constraints early.
  3. Pilot: Test the agreed workflow at a meaningful but bounded scale.
  4. Scale: Expand only after the pilot meets the documented acceptance criteria.

The sample and pilot establish whether Uthana can produce data that matches the agreed technical requirements. The customer remains responsible for evaluating downstream model performance.

Bring the requirement, not a polished brief

If the team already has a schema, sample file, evaluation script, or acceptance test, start there. If the specification is incomplete, share the target task, body representation, required fields, and known gaps in existing data. Uthana can help define a bounded pilot without pretending unresolved requirements are already settled.
